Free Online Abacus Learning App for Kids — Learn, Practice, Master

What is Abacus4Everyone?

Abacus4Everyone is a free, interactive online abacus learning platform designed for children ages 5 to 15. Our app teaches mental mathematics using the ancient abacus method, helping students develop extraordinary calculation speed and mental visualization skills.

The abacus (also known as soroban in Japanese or Indian abacus) has been used for centuries to develop mental arithmetic abilities. Research shows that children who learn abacus-based mental maths develop stronger number sense, improved concentration, better memory, and enhanced confidence in mathematics.

Abacus Formulas Explained

Small Friends (Make 5)

When adding a number and there aren't enough earth beads available, we use the 5-complement. For example, to add 4 when there are no empty earth beads, we subtract 1 and add 5 (push the heaven bead down).

+4 = −1 +5   |   +3 = −2 +5   |   +2 = −3 +5   |   +1 = −4 +5

Big Friends (Make 10)

When adding a number and the current rod is full, we use the 10-complement. For example, to add 9, we subtract 1 from the current rod and add 10 (add 1 to the next rod on the left).

+9 = −1 +10   |   +8 = −2 +10   |   +7 = −3 +10   |   +6 = −4 +10   |   +5 = −5 +10

Multiplication Shortcuts

The abacus teaches clever multiplication shortcuts that make calculations lightning fast:

×2 = Double   |   ×5 = Half, then ×10   |   ×9 = ×10 minus the number   |   ×6 = ×5 plus the number
